Four Favorite ‘F’ Words

This is G rated so no worries…

Fun, Fight, Focus, and Flow are the major concepts we encourage at Mental Game Athlete. Fun is the athlete’s enjoyment for the sport and always comes first. The Why they liked it at first, then fell in love, and eventually became obsessed with it. It’s boundless fun and creativity, freedom to be our true self.

Fight. The invisible battle is real and the most dominant. We learn to silence the inner critic, the doubter, the fear monster and turn into our biggest fan, coach, encourager, and warrior. And fight is essential for those moments when the external results are not matching up with what we worked for.

Focus equals 100% concentration and purpose. The athlete is present mentally with the right mix of intensity, relaxation, trust, and knowledge of how to compete on that day.

Flow is created from the application of the above concepts mixed in with the right combination of a challenge and the confidence to execute it. The event/task/skill cannot be too easy. It must be exactly right—-hard enough to where we want it badly and work at it because we are earning the skills to do it. Flow becomes automatic. Time slows down, no thinking involved, performing, and playing with no judgement or expectations. We are having Fun. We Fight. We Focus. And we Flow.
